Horizontal Directional Drilling

PDI has a long history of providing safe, powerful and environmentally friendly methods for subsurface construction. In addition to our core competencies in pneumatic hammer drilling and other traditional drilling and excavation methods, PDI has expertise in advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). This technology allows us to install pipelines under roads, rivers and existing structures without disrupting the surface. HDD is also ideal for pipe rehabilitation and other applications where safety, efficiency, and risk management are important.

HDD, also known as trenchless drilling, uses heavy-duty equipment to bore underground and create infrastructure for utility installation. It requires a radio transmitter to track and guide the drill bit to its destination, and creates a tunnel through which we pull back the conduit needed to install the utility line. Safe and effective HDD is capable of placing multiple conduits at once, and has proven to be a fast, convenient and cost-effective way to build the underground infrastructure needed for a number of utilities.

Mesa Schools Online

When Mesa Public Schools launched an initiative to install a fiber optic network to connect every elementary and junior high school classroom to the Internet, PDI Construction was the contractor of choice. We used vacuum excavation to locate existing underground utilities, and horizontal directional drilling to install conduit without disrupting surface traffic or school activities. We placed all necessary manholes and vaults, and our networking services connected the entire system. Once successfully installed, we did the restoration work to finish the job-on time, and on budget.
